I have owned several different bibles during my life, but they’ve always seemed fragile to me because of their thin, onionskin like pages. Because of that, I’ve never really carried one with me unless it was to church and back. And even though I have a Bible app on my phone, I prefer real books over their electronic counterparts. Enter, the Waterproof Bible!
Now **this** is a Bible I feel totally comfortable throwing into my purse or bag and toting it along with me to the ends of the earth! The beach? No problem! Hiking across the Alps? Sure thing! Participating in a Color or Mud Marathon? Piece of cake! (Actually, I would probably die within the first 50 yards, but this Bible could make it to the finish line like a champ!)
Crazy adventures aside, the Waterproof Bible is great for everyday use. I would feel totally comfortable giving this Bible to my son without worrying about it falling victim to his boyish enthusiasm. Grubby, sticky boy fingers are no problem for this beauty.
On a more serious note, I live in tornado alley and we just had some truly terrible storms blow through. In a city south of us many home were flattened and several people lost their lives. Having a Bible during a crises would be a great comfort in a situation like that, especially if we had damage to our home or had to stay in a shelter. The Waterproof Bible would be a good choice to grab during an emergency.
Just how tough is the Waterproof Bible after all? Let me show you! At first I cringed at the thought of purposefully trying to damage a book, and the Bible at that! **gasp!** But after the first 30 seconds it was actually a lot of fun. Lol! The first thing we did was place it in the sink and turn on the water.
Awesome, even the cover is waterproof! But that wasn’t enough, to really test it out we needed to soak the pages on the inside.
Wowza, look at all that water! You can tell this was no sprinkle, but a full on emersion! Still, we had read that the Waterpoof Bible could float, so we were determined to see if it was true.
Looks looks like it does! As impressive as that was, I still wondered if it could hold up to something a bit more…..STICKY. So I pulled out the toothpaste and….
Let me just tell you, I did have a little voice in my head telling me that I was headed for the “Hot Zone” while doing this. I mean, it’s the B.I.B.L.E. after all! Eeeek! Then we smeared it around for good measure.
Now that I think about it, I should have closed the book so that it would have gotten on both pages. Ah well, there’s always tomorrow. **grin** Time to rinse it off!
Look at that, good as new! Not a smear, wrinkle or smudge!
This amazing Bible really is sturdy, durable, tear resistant and stain resistant! Some of my fellow reviewers have also tried leaving it out during a rainstorm, covering it with mud, and even smearing it with Nutella. (What? Lol!)
The Waterproof Bible is made with extremely durable synthetic pages. They are stain resistant, the text is surprisingly clear, and you can’t see the text bleed through from the other side of the page. The version I reviewed, which was the New Testament, Psalms & Proverbs is very sleek and portable. A full sized version would be larger, but still very easy to take along. Because of the unique synthetic pages, any highlighting or notes should be made with a ballpoint pen, dry highlighter or regular/colored pencils. Other pens will smear.
The Waterproof Bible comes in the following versions:
- NIV – New International Version
- NKJV – New King James Version
- KJV – King James Version
- ESV – English Standard Version
- NLT – New Living Translation
You also have the choice of pink, blue or camouflage covers.
I really can’t think of any downsides to the Waterproof Bible. It does take about a day or so for the pages to dry out when you’ve soaked it like I did. But that’s hardly a complaint considering the durability and all around awesomeness of it. Check it out for yourself!
