  1. Furiously Happy

    January 26, 2012 by Photojenic

I was first introduced to The Bloggess through her hysterical “Beyonce the Chicken” post. (Warning: do not click through if you find graphic language offensive. Seriously.) It was particularly funny to me since Mr. Photojenic and I were celebrating our 15th anniversary too. *lol*

Although her posts are peppered with foul language and taxidermied animals, I really enjoy her blog. She suffers from depression and panic/anxiety issues but in 2010 decided to be “Furiously Happy” instead of allowing depression to keep dragging her down. It’s not a miracle cure, and she still struggles with depression and anxiety issues, but it’s a lot more productive to choose joy than to wallow in self pity.

In the spirit of the Furiously Happy Movement, I made a little 8×10 poster to share with you. Click on the image to download it, and point your friends here to download their own copy.

    Happy

Some things that make me happy: blue skies and sunshine, road trips, hugs from my kids, Dunkin Donuts coffee, the smell of fresh cut grass, my camera, Mr. Photojenic’s rare but infectious laugh…and so much more.

Your turn: What makes you furiously happy? Please leave your note in the comments section. <3

  2. Meal Planning with Pepperplate

    January 19, 2012 by Photojenic

One thing I really love is my iPad 2. One thing I’m really bad at is meal planning. I am just not one of those people who can throw open her pantry and plan a meal with the random ingredients inside. In fact, I start having heart palpitations when I realize we’re out of mac ‘n cheese.

I’ve tried various meal planning schemes, subscriptions and plans. But mostly I end up staring at my empty fridge wondering when the magic grocery fairy is going to re-stock the provisions. (The magic grocery fairy happens to be my husband, who isn’t any better at meal planning than me. *snork*)

However, things may hopefully be looking up for me! Instead of wandering aimlessly around the grocery hoping ingredients for actual meals will hop into my cart, I will now be able to carry actual meal plans, recipes and (*gasp*) a shopping list with my at the store!

I ran across a neat meal planning app called Pepperplate. Not only is it really well thought out, but it’s also F.R.E.E. (can you hear the angels singing?) You also don’t have to have access to the web in order to use the app. Which is super important to me because I don’t have an iPhone or an iPad with 3G anything.

Some of my favorite features include:

    1. Being able to add recipes from several major food websites. And with the help of a bookmarklet you can also add recipes from other website like blogs. Not to mention being able to manually enter in your own recipes. And did I mention you can do this from Pepperplate website? Yay! So much easier than trying to do it from within the app.

    2. You can arrange your recipes into meal plans, and add those meal plans to your meal calendar. Then you can add your choices to your shopping list when you’re ready to hit the store! There is a way to arrange the list to shop by aisle, but my grocery store changes things so often I’m lucky if I remember where the front door is.

    3. When you are ready to cook, the app has a handy timer build right in. You can cook several recipes at once and set a timer for each one. Plus in “Cook Mode” it keeps the iPad screen from dimming, making it much easier to see the next step.

There area really so many features, you have to check out the website for all of them. You can also read user reviews at the Apple app store.

Your turn: Do you use your iPad (Android, etc.) to help you in the kitchen? If so, how do you protect it from cooking splatters? Any other meal planning hints or tips you’d like to share? If so, leave them in the comments!

  3. 40 Bags Progress

    March 12, 2011 by Photojenic

    maid

I’ve been working on my 40 Bags in 40 Days project with mixed results. I start off in one room, then discover myself in another with a bigger mess than what I started with!

I have a tendency to go BIG, instead of working in small manageable bites. My hubby has gotten into the habit of asking me each afternoon if he’ll be able to sleep in the bed that night. *lol* I have a habit of using our bed as a holding area when I’m cleaning/organizing.

    mags

I’ve been making pretty good progress with our magazine clutter. I have a tendency to save my magazines to read later, only to discover about two years worth of magazines I’ve never read. *doh!*

So I’ve been going through them and tearing out the articles/ideas that I want to keep and storing them in binders, while recycling the rest of the magazine. I think I’m going to start doing this every single time a magazine enters the house.

How are you doing? Making any progress, or making more of a mess like me? *lol*

  4. Will you be my friend?

    March 11, 2011 by Photojenic

    Friends,
I would really like to apply for the TOS Homeschool Crew this year, but I have to have at least 25 public followers. I get quite a few daily views, so I know I have enough visitors. However, I only installed the Google Friend Connect a little bit ago so I don’t have enough public followers yet.. Would you please consider joining my blog as a friend?

I appreciate it so much. Thanks!

  5. 40 Bags in 40 Days

    March 9, 2011 by Photojenic

I’m taking the 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge this year over Lent. It’s a great idea that’s totally in line with my whole “declutter and simply” theme I’ve had going in my life this year.

(You know my friends and I are ALWAYS sitting around my tub talking about how clean it is. *snork!*)

It’s pretty simple; get rid of 40 bags of stuff during the 40 days of Lent. Whether you use bags or boxes; toss, donate, give away or sell; it’s all up to you!

I discovered this idea just this past week at the blog Clover Lane. I love her hints and tips, and especially the idea of keeping a visual in mind as you work.

She also suggests dividing your house up into “areas” to tackle each day, spreading some rooms/areas into several days as needed. She also left some wiggle room on her list (only 33 defined areas) so she could add or subtract as needed. I’m going to be encouraging my whole family to get in on the fun.

    Yup, especially the boys. :)

Here’s my list: I think I’m going to have to add some very specific areas as I go along, like bookshelves. That area alone could take an entire day! *whew*

Thinking about joining in? I’d love to here from you!
